HAWK – POE CGR Setup Tutorial Video

A new connection on a level transmitter does not help if the person who has to install it cannot see the steps. A brochure can say power over ethernet. It does not show which cable goes in which port. HAWK's video is a setup walkthrough. Dan, from Hawk Measurement America, says he is going through the new CGR PoE guided wave radar, which he calls award-winning. He explains PoE as power over ethernet, electrical power on the same cable as the data. Then he does the steps on the bench. He says you need a PoE switch, and he names the one he is using, a Ubiquiti UniFi Mini. The network cable goes into the switch. A second cable goes from the switch into the CGR. He opens a browser to the default IP address, and he says to call if a question comes up during that. The page asks for a username and password. After login, he is on a status page. He opens the local IP configuration tab, changes a network setting, saves, and restarts. He says a 404 page will come up, and not to worry. Type the new address and the device is back. He says there is not much else to set on that page. The rest of the setup, he says, is like any other CGR, inside the company's software. He sets the connection type to network TCP/IP, enters the new IP address, and connects. He opens a diagnostic window. He says this tank is five feet, and he reads the screen: liquid level at 2.43 feet, distance at 2.56 feet. He points at a milliamp trend on the top graph and the pulse return on the bottom, including false echoes. He says that if the valve is opened, you can watch the level drop in real time. He closes by saying to call if you need more help, and that he will see you in the next video. Another instrument company hiring Beacon for this kind of video is buying a way for the person who installs the product to see the connection once, in order, before they are standing at the tank. The spec sheet can still say PoE. This is the video that shows the cable, the login, and the screen they will actually use. HAWK did not need another product announcement. They needed the setup said out loud by the person who does it. That is what this video is for.

[00:00.000] Hi, my name is Dan with Hawk Measurement America. [00:12.640] I'm here today with you to go over our new award-winning CGR PoE guided wave radar level [00:18.360] transmitter. [00:19.440] You may be wondering what exactly is PoE. [00:21.880] PoE stands for Power Over Ethernet and is the means of carrying electrical power through [00:27.400] data cables. [00:28.920] With PoE enabled devices, electrical current passes through with the Ethernet cable along [00:33.840] with the data normally carried by that Ethernet cable. [00:37.360] So the next question is, how do I connect and set up a PoE network? [00:42.120] Well first, we need to have a PoE enabled switch. [00:45.680] Today I'm using a Ubiquiti UniFi Mini. [00:48.960] Simply plug in your main network cable into one port on the switch. [00:52.880] Then with the secondary available port, connect that into your PoE CGR. [00:58.840] Next you will open up your web browser and connect to the default IP address. [01:02.680] If you have any questions during this, please feel free to call in and we'll be happy to [01:06.840] assist. [01:08.120] Once your web browser is connected to the CGR, you'll be prompted for a username and [01:11.960] password in order to log in. [01:16.320] Once you enter in your username and password, bring up this next page here of the homepage [01:21.080] with the current status of the device. [01:22.360] What we're going to do next is select the local IP configuration tab and this is where [01:26.320] we can go in and we can change any of the network settings to match your specific network. [01:30.920] So here I'm going to change this, let's say, to 110. [01:34.840] After that, we're going to save. [01:36.000] The module is going to be prompted to require to restart in order to take those settings. [01:41.480] We're just going to go ahead and restart that. [01:43.840] This 404 not found page will always come up, don't worry. [01:47.000] The device is still there, so in order to refine your CGR, just simply punch in your [01:53.080] new network settings and the device is back in action. [01:58.720] So we can go ahead and do anything else needed, but there isn't really any other setup required [02:04.320] for the device on this page. [02:07.800] The page we're actually going to look at for the setup is in GOSHOC. [02:11.840] So we'll open up our GOSHOC software, select view and options. [02:21.000] This is where we will go in and make sure that your com settings type is set to network [02:26.960] TCP IP and punch in your new IP address and simply click OK. [02:37.360] After that, we hit connect and the unit is successful in connection. [02:44.560] In order to successfully set up a CGR POE, it is just like any other CGR. [02:51.640] We have our main setup tab. [02:55.280] We also have all of our advanced and normal other set of parameters that are required [03:01.440] to properly set up your device. [03:03.120] In order to make sure everything is set up if it is installed already, simply click on [03:08.560] the diag window and come up with our diagnostic screen. [03:12.360] If we need to change any of the scaling depending on the height of your tank, we can do so [03:16.600] simply in the scale located on the bottom right of the page. [03:20.760] This is a five foot tank, so I'm going to bring it down and close the window up. [03:23.440] So you can see right now in our diagnostics window that our current liquid level is at [03:28.520] 2.43 feet. [03:31.120] We also have a distance on the right hand side of 2.56 feet. [03:36.360] The top graph is the milliamp data trend. [03:40.180] So you can see the historical trending of the liquid level. [03:43.940] On the bottom graph is our pulse signal amplitude return. [03:47.240] So we can see here if we have multiple reflections, picking up any false echoes or anything like [03:51.660] that. [03:52.660] And then if the valve is opened, we can see the level here start to decrease in real time. [04:00.500] I hope this information has been helpful, but if you need any further assistance, please [04:04.220] feel free to contact us at any time. [04:10.180] We'll see you in the next video. [04:11.180] Bye.
