Thompson's WaterSeal Stain Video

A homeowner does not pick a stain from a performance chart. They pick it when they can see the color on wood that looks like theirs. Thompson's WaterSeal needed that moment in the middle of a fence project, after the prep and before the video about upkeep. Beacon put the choice on camera, in a little over two minutes. The presenter says she is using Thompson's WaterSeal semi-transparent chestnut brown because it adds color and the wood grain still shows. At the end she pours water on the stained board and says that if it beads up, the fence is ready. The video also says the sealer helps prevent water damage and resists mold and mildew. That is what the video says. It is not a Beacon test. Another brand hiring Beacon for this kind of video is buying the minute when a shopper chooses a can. A product grid can say semi-transparent. It cannot show the grain still coming through, or water beading on a board the viewer just watched get stained. The video can sit in a project series, on a retailer page, or in the post that follows the prep. The presenter says the next video is where they finish the fence and maintain it. Thompson's did not need another line about protection. They needed the color decision to feel finished before someone commits to a can. That is what this video is for.

[00:00.000] Welcome back. We've prepped all the wood to make sure that it's nice and clean. And now [00:20.080] it's time to get this fence assembled and start staining it too. All the materials have [00:24.640] been cut down to size to make the frames and the insert details. The outer frame is white [00:29.480] so I'm getting all of these parts painted and assembled because I think the white really [00:33.440] helps to highlight the beautiful wood details. And now it's time for the fun part. For this [00:38.800] project I've decided to go with Thompson's Water Seal Semi-Transparent Chestnut Brown. [00:43.440] I decided that the semi-transparent was perfect for this project because it adds beautiful color [00:48.160] while still allowing the wood grain to show through. Plus with this semi-transparent it's [00:53.320] going to add protection while enhancing the wood's natural beauty. Not all water prefers [00:58.680] are created equal. Thompson's Water Seal helps prevent against water damage. It provides a mold [01:04.560] and mildew resistant finish. Plus this tinted sealer helps to add color while enhancing the [01:11.200] woods natural beauty. For this project I'm using a brush but if you're doing something of a larger [01:16.800] scale like a deck you may need to use something like a roller or pad on a pole to really help [01:22.160] make your project more efficient. As you're applying the sealer make sure to work with one [01:27.120] board at a time going up and down to avoid lap marks. If you decide to use a sprayer for your [01:33.120] project you may need to go back over it with a brush or roller just to ensure consistent color. [01:38.480] Drying time depends on the temperature and humidity. Check the label for instructions [01:44.160] but with ideal conditions Thompson's Water Seal should dry to the touch in just two hours. When [01:49.840] you're done staining and you've allowed ample time to dry it's time for a splash test again. [01:54.440] Pour a little bit of water on this and if it beads up just like that you're good to go. [02:01.160] Now that we've prepped and stained check out the third and final video [02:05.240] to see how we finish this fence and maintain it too.
