A plant does not lose candidates because the pay is a secret. It loses them because the job post sounds like every other job post, and nobody believes the next job is real. Mercury's recruiting video is the people who took the path, not a narrator reading the careers page. The offer they repeat is the one a posting cannot make stick. Most production jobs do not require a college degree. You do not need manufacturing experience, because the plant will train you. The proof is specific. Someone hired out of high school. Someone who moved from the floor into engineering. Someone who took a lead job and stayed because it worked for their family. The video also says who already works there, including a workforce that is more than 40 percent women, and a company that hires across ages. Another manufacturer hiring Beacon for this kind of video is buying a reason to apply that a careers page cannot carry. Pay, tuition help, and a 401(k) can live in a bullet. A path only lands when a person describes the move they made. Put the video where the application starts. Mercury did not need a longer list of benefits. They needed candidates who could picture a start, and picture staying. That is what this video is for.

[00:00.000] Music Mercury Plastics is not a typical supplier in the plastics industry. [00:13.000] Instead, we focus on products and processes that involve an innovative approach. [00:19.000] One of the great things about Mercury is the family culture around here. [00:24.000] My brother actually got me the job here in the factory working night turn. [00:29.000] Mercury Plastics has always been a family-oriented company from very founding many years ago. [00:34.000] Close co-workers are family to you, and the friendly work environment throughout the plant makes for a very exciting and fun day. [00:43.000] The majority of the production jobs don't require a college degree, and a lot of technical jobs don't require a college degree. [00:50.000] I came straight out of high school. [00:50.000] I just got involved in anything that interested me. [00:54.000] In the manufacturing world, certification and experience is the most important thing for doing anything technical. [01:00.000] If you're not the going to college type, then getting a skilled trade is definitely very good to have. [01:07.000] A college degree isn't always necessary. [01:07.000] So when I joined the workforce, I was able to earn and save and start my 401K right off the bat. [01:15.000] Following my career path that I did, I was able to increase my earnings quite a bit. [01:19.000] With more responsibility comes more money in every field that you work in. [01:24.000] Mercury provides innovative thermoplastic solutions to a variety of market segments. [01:30.000] One of our core values is drive for results. [01:34.000] In order to realize this, we know that growing and equipping our employees for success requires ongoing development, education and new initiatives. [01:44.000] There's also a lot of opportunity to grow in the factory, too. [01:49.000] You know, it gave me a lot of freedom, so I decided to go back to school at that point. [01:54.000] I felt that I could be an engineer, and I wanted to be one. [01:57.000] It worked out great. [01:57.000] Right before my senior year, I applied for an engineering internship here at Mercury. [02:03.000] After I became a full-time engineer here at Mercury, there was still a lot to learn, even after college. [02:09.000] We're actually getting into starting to use robots for a few things. [02:13.000] Mercury's actually sending me to training to help learn how to program the robots. [02:18.000] I felt there was still more I wanted to learn, more I needed to learn. [02:25.000] I went into the maintenance department, learned a lot of hands-on technical training. [02:29.000] I started out in the company straight out of high school. [02:32.000] There were lots of opportunities to learn and to move around throughout production, and throughout my time here, I've held various roles in manufacturing in several departments, and then also in our administrative side, ranging from production planning to my current role as supply chain manager. [02:50.000] Wherever I really wanted to develop myself, it seemed that there was an area where I could plug that skill in to help our company to be better, to be more profitable, to be more efficient. [03:00.000] We foster openness and encourage courageous conversations. [03:04.000] Everyone has a voice at Mercury, and we want to ensure all are heard and considered. [03:10.000] I spent about five years on the floor, came up with some ideas to help improve some jobs out on the floor, communicated well with the leads and supervisors we had in here, and then after about five years, a lead position came open on third shift. [03:22.000] When they offered me that position, I was unsure if I wanted to stick with my college thing, but I decided to go all in on this lead position, and it's been really well for me and my family. [03:33.000] I work really hard. [03:33.000] I'm a fast-paced worker. [03:33.000] I like getting the respect of the people. [03:37.000] I love the challenges of the job, moving quickly. [03:40.000] The first time you come in the door, everything you do in here, you just have to work hard and put effort in it. [03:44.000] No matter where you're at, you can get recognized when you work hard and do those kind of things, especially here at Mercury Plastics. [03:51.000] At Mercury Plastics, we hire people that have all different backgrounds, and they're very diverse. [03:56.000] Over 40 percent of our workforce are females, and we hire people of all different ages. [04:02.000] And more recently, we started to partner with organizations that support peoples with disabilities. [04:07.000] We hire people that come in with no experience whatsoever. [04:11.000] We don't need you to come in with manufacturing experience. [04:14.000] We offer programs where we train you. [04:17.000] We focus on your needs, your development, and we have tuition reimbursement programs to help you achieve whatever certifications you may need. [04:26.000] Why do people want to get into manufacturing? [04:29.000] The pay is good, lots of opportunities, job security, benefits for your family, benefits for yourself, 401K, those kind of benefits, vacations are paid. [04:41.000] A career in manufacturing is a great opportunity because there are so many different areas to grow into and interests to be explored. [04:50.000] So if you're just starting out your career and looking for a place to lay down roots, Geauga County is an excellent pick. [04:54.000] Not only is it full of many places for employment, but it's also a great place to raise a family and to settle down and plan a life. [05:04.000] We respect individuals, encourage self-awareness, and foster continuous improvement in all that we do.
